Duo synergies & trio compositions
The best heroes to play together share a timing, cover each other’s needs, or do both. Start with your duo or trio: the core score measures those interactions without penalizing empty team slots.
Winston and Genji bring engage and follow-up. Reinhardt, Mei and Lucio have a close-range plan. Choose your own heroes to see which tools your squad brings and which teammates fill the gaps.
5v5 and 6v6 team comps
In 5v5, complete one Tank, two Damage and two Supports. The 6v6 builder leaves roles open; it still uses unique heroes and the same tactical profiles, rather than claiming mode-specific balance predictions.
Explore hero Guides for execution, Counters for enemy matchups, and the Tier ListPatch for broader rankings. Your own Hero Pool can show whether you have the swaps to support that plan.

SQUAD BUILDER FAQ
How hero synergy, completion and sharing work.
For deeper reviews, explore our Overwatch Guides. After a match, analyze your scoreboard to see how execution matched the plan.
Can I start with just an Overwatch duo or trio?
Yes. Two heroes are enough to rate your core. Trios, four-player groups and full teams work too, without an empty-slot score penalty. One person selects all the heroes.
Which Overwatch heroes work well together?
Look for a shared timing and complementary tools. Winston and Genji bring dive engage and follow-up; Reinhardt, Mei and Lucio share a close-range plan. The builder recommends teammates around your picks, rather than selecting the same team for everyone.
How do 5v5 and 6v6 compositions differ here?
5v5 uses one Tank, two Damage and two Supports. 6v6 has open roles. Both use unique heroes and the same tactical profiles; the builder does not model separate 6v6 balance coefficients.
How is Core Synergy calculated?
Pair fit starts at 45 points, adds 25 for a shared style, and adds 8 for supplying a teammate’s need, capped at 15 per direction. Core Synergy averages those pair scores. Full teams use 70% pair fit and 30% coverage of ten team tools. This is a planning rubric, not a win probability.
How are the remaining heroes recommended?
Completion balances projected fit, missing tools, shared style, healing and listed counter matchups. Your picks stay fixed; each next slot builds on the previous best fit. Recommendations are sequential, not a global optimum. Map geometry, skill, ultimate combinations and mode-specific balance are not scored. Matchups reviewed for 2026-10-06.
What does partial profile review mean?
Some newer hero profiles use conservative toolkit inferences from existing role and matchup descriptions. These stay marked separately from established profiles. Missing pair data is excluded from the score, never invented.
Can friends edit the same shared squad?
A share link opens the selection and current analysis. Friends can build a new version; there are no collaborative rooms. Links last 30 days and save only the mode and hero IDs.
